Hello! My name is Christine Peterson-those who know me will know me asking for help means I have exhausted every other venue-I hate asking for help on a good day, asking for financial help makes it even harder. My situation however isn't due to laziness, bad choices or incompetence-I am physically disabled and no longer able to work.
In 1998 I sustained a serious spinal injury due to a domestic violence incident. Unable to do proper testing at the time due to my pregnancy, and my focus on getting myself and my children into a safer environment-I unknowingly had a ticking time bomb in my spine- the S1 is completely crushed, trapping some nerves in it and the L4 and L5 are herniated and protruding out, touching nerves etc. In addition I recently discovered the injury has caused bone spurs and arthritis.  By the time my youngest child was born, my spinal issue was pushed over the edge and is now inoperable.
Due to my injury and also being diagnosed with Central Sleep Apnea, I haven't been able to work since 2014-my youngest child recieves survivor benefits from my second husband, who passed away in 2005.
My late husband's mom has been amazing and helping me where she could, however she herself is in a position where she may not be able to help me much longer and I have bills stacking up-both medical and utilites. Although my significant other is working hard, one income and three kids has taken a toll-in the past 2 years since I stopped working, I have been evicted, lost my ability to drive due to the Sleep Apnea and my medication for my spine as well as having discovered that due to the location of the nerves near the S-1 injury-I am inoperable.
Despite all of this, I have been denied several times from my first Social Security application and was denied on my second application for the first time-which is under appeal. A hearing probably won't be until summer *IF* I'm lucky. Time I have. Money I don't.
What I need help with is:
-insurance payments-my MIL paid out over $8k last year and she needs help I'd like to give her as much as possible to do that
-co-paysmedical billsmedication-they keep adding up with no end in sight-my deductable is $3800-which I reached last year by March
-living expenses-rent, food, utilities-when local food banks not only know your name but the stuff you like and don't like to eat-you know you're going way too much-I do get SNAP and it helps-however it lasts maybe less than 10 days into the month. I am on assistance programs for utilities-although with very little extra money coming in, even that amount is hard to maintain.
To sum it up, I am a mess-the experience of the Social Security application has been depressing me to the point where I am actual depressed! My house phone has been shut off and all the bills are staring at me, mocking me at every turn. This is an emergency situation-again I hate asking for help, this is really hard for me, however since I have 3 kids (2 home, one at college) it's not about me and I am willing to bite the bullet for them.  Please be kind. Any help is appreciated, welcome and will be received with gratitude.
Thank You & God Bless
Christine
