Maloney's Medical & Expense Fund

On Sunday, February 26th, Chris and I were enjoying the day snowmobiling at the lake. Around 5:15pm,  we decided to hit the trails leading to one of Chris’s favorite burger spots. While heading out, Chris hit something and was thrown from his snowmobile and seriously injured.  Chris was airlifted to Essentia Hospital in Fargo and is presently in ICU where he is being treated for a fractured skull and traumatic brain injury.

Since the accident, Chris has been heavily sedated to help with the swelling and bleeding in his brain. They have him on a ventilator to assist with breathing; they are hopeful they will be able to remove it in the near future as he is doing a lot of the breathing on his own. After a recent scan, the neurologist said he is showing some improvement.  There have been some encouraging moments as Chris was able to tell the doctors his name, has responded to commands and has at times responded with facial expressions.  Doris, Chris’s mom, says he is very strong and determined and they are seeing some of Chris’s humor coming out.

The doctors have told his family that it will take a very long time for the healing process based on his injuries. The doctors estimate that the recovery time will take six months to a year. To say he has a long road to recovery is an understatement.

Chris does not have medical insurance at this time and the costs incurred will be several thousand dollars if not more.  The set goal is to assist Chris with his medical and living expenses.  He will be unable to work for the next several months; his livelihood has been halted while his monthly living expenses continue.  It would be an added tragedy for Chris to lose his home and possessions.  Please consider helping Chris through this terrible accident and recovery process.

Everybody loves Maloney…. we all pray that he will be jammin’ soon!!!

**Update**  3-13-2017
Chris is showing good signs of improvement. He is still being sedated and every once in a while they  wake him up. When awake he is able to communicate through facial expressions and hand gestures.  They stood him up with assistance and he took a few steps. The doctors believe that they will be able to remove trach tube soon. It was good to see Chris becoming Chris again.

**Update**  3-15-17
The doctors did an xray of Chris's  neck yesterday, everything looked good and his neck brace was removed. They have been removing his trach tube every once in a while for feeding. He is eating and talking a little when the trach is removed.

**Update**  3-20-17
Chris has made some good improvements over the last few  days. He is sitting up in his chair and talking. He is now able to walk on his own, taking laps through the hospital halls 4 times per day.

Chris has a long road to recovery. Chris is strong, he will make his recovery happen.
