for 2022 update and needs.
Hello friends and family, on January 30, 2021 my dad had an Ischemic stroke. I am so thankful that he was at the grocery store at time and someone called 911 right away. They gave him a "clot buster" or TPA to reverse the blood clot but he didn't react well to it and it caused a Hemorrhagic stroke or brain bleed. He was in the hospital for a week unable to communicate and with a feeding tube. He has since gone through acute rehab and is now in skilled nursing.
He has greatly improved physically and although he is making improvements he is struggling with confusion, cognition and communication quite a bit due to the location of the stroke. Some of you may not be surprised to hear that he keeps trying to pack up his bag and leave. He is not big on people telling HIM what to do! We are still waiting to find out where he will go next, but most likely he will not be able to return to living independently.
This message has taken me some time to put together for muliplte reasons; this has been heartbreaking for me, my dad will be pissed when he finally sees this post , but mostly I'm just not one to ask for help. There are going to be many expenses to come for my dad that I can't comprehend right now: cost of assisted living, medical expenses, etc. Unfortunately, he does not have the funds to cover these things. If you are able to contribute anything towards potential costs to ensure that he has the best care available, it would be greatly appreciated. If you know my dad, you know he deserves the best!
