Chris Giesy Funeral Expenses

On July 24, 2020 Chris was admitted into the hospital, where he was diagnosed with Covid. We are not sure how long he was sick, before he was taken to the hospital, as he was living in a homeless shelter and avoiding most of his family. When the hospital got a hold of Matt, they informed him that the prognosis did not look good as Chris's organs had already begun to shut down. On July 28, 2020 Chris passed away.
A lot of you know Chris, you've seen him walking around town- he was up bright and early every morning making his rounds, you've talked with him on the bus- he had a passion for the bus and knew all of the routes like the back of his hand, you've had a class with him at Merced College- he was a life long learner and spent many years attending classes or you've encountered him at Bobbi's Liquor- where he worked off and on for several years. For most people in our small community Chris was a character, someone you recognized every time you seen him but didnt really know. But Chris was also a son, a brother, a nephew, an uncle, a cousin and a friend.
Fifteen years ago, Chris's brother Matthew moved to Portland. Eleven years ago Chris's mother passed away, leaving Chris alone in Atwater. Matt tried to get Chris to move with him several times and if you knew Chris he always talked about moving to Portland- he would go for a few days, once even a few weeks, but he always returned back - because Atwater was home- it was what he knew and where he felt the safest- even if it meant living in hotel rooms or staying in homeless shelters. Chris was a 42 yr old man, but had the mind of a child and did not do well with change.
Chris death is extremely unexpected, and Matt was not financially prepared for his loss. We are hoping to raise money to cover the cremation expenses and the travel expenses for Matt.
