My father (Christopher Genga) recently passed away tragically in an accident in Cape Verde. Anyone that knew my dad would know you'd never seen him without his bike. He loved to be active and he adored walking and cycling.
Walking has played a big part in our families lives. Dad took Craig and I away to walk the Lycian Way in Turkey. Despite being many years our senior, he was fitter than both of us. He loved walking in the Turkish Sun seeing beautiful countryside. Many of my fondest memories of dad are from this walk.
My mum and dad met whilst dad was walking the south of the country. My dad left for this walk because his father passed away. They met at a youth hostel where dad took my mum out to the pub for a cigarette and a drink. Walking started our family.
Dads favourite walk was the West Highland Way. This is a 154km walk from Milngavie to Fort William. He always talked so fondly of the beautiful countryside views. He had asked me to do the walk with him; we never found the time to arrange it, something I will always regret. I am raising money at the funeral to donate to the west highland way. They are a registered charity whose role is to maintain the trail for years to come. I think dad would love to know that he's contributed to more people experiencing this wonderful walk.
Love you Dad x
The charity is currently in the process of being transferred hence having to raise the money here and then donating it to the charity via paypal on their website.
