Chris Gee Combats ALS - Help Him!
Donation protected
4 years ago, near the end of the covid lockdowns we crossed paths with Chris, a single father to a now 9-year-old son. Right away the entire dojo clicked with him and within a few months he was already a vital part of our dojo. He quickly worked his way up in rank as he continued to train with us in Song Moo Kwan Korean Karate, getting his first dan black belt, and even became an instructor adored by all the students, young and old. We aren’t exaggerating when we say our dojo is a family and Chris (as well as his son) is a part of it.
So, you could imagine our shock when Chris was diagnosed with ALS, (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis) also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, and given somewhere between 3-5 years to live.
Now 2 years later Chris can no longer walk, can barely speak, and is losing weight rapidly. Despite it all, he remains optimistic. While his diagnosis is no laughing matter, Chris has always known how to crack a joke that would have us all in tears from laughter and even now still manages to capture perfect comedic timing.
We’ll never forget one year into his diagnosis the time he sped past us in an electric scooter at the mall; laughing the entire time about leaving us in the dust. Or a year and half into his diagnosis when we were dancing to some silly music, and he joined in by moving his electric wheelchair back and forth. Despite his difficulty to speak he still makes smart remarks often and we all laugh together with him.
He continues to make the most out of a truly dreadful situation.
Around the holidays this last year he still found time and money to pick out the perfect gifts for all of us at the dojo. In spite of all the hardships and stress he has faced he still finds time to think about the people in his life. Thus, we want to do the same.
All donations will go directly to Chris to cover as many of his expenses as possible: medical bills, groceries, rent, etc., in addition to stem cell treatment if possible. This way Chris and his son won’t have to worry about anything other than spending precious time together and continuing to make happy memories while they still can.
Any amount will help out a lot. If you can’t donate, please feel free to share! We greatly appreciate any contribution.
