~ AS OF APRIL 24th 2017~
14 days since I received the dreaded call that my son Christopher Feeley (#10) had a horrible crash while training for the upcoming motocross season down at JWTF (Jimmy Weinart's Training Facility). He was unconscious and in distress from his injuries which included bi -lateral rib fractures (6 ribs Left -3 ribs right), a collapsed left lung, broken collarbone (left side),scapula fracture, transverse process spinal fractures (C7, T1 & T2) and TBI (Traumatic Brain injury) which left him in a coma.
He opened his eyes for the first time 5 days later (Easter Sunday) thanks to all of our prayers praying, an amazing medical team clapping and Christopher's willingness to fight fist
I thank God every day that Jimmy Weinart called for a helicopter immediately and that Schae Thomas, the JWTF trainers, Lt. Gino Steneck & FF Bill Docchio knew what to do (and what not to do!) to support Christopher until the paramedics arrived. They quite literally helped to save his life praying
Christopher has made enormous progress since he woke up from the coma 9 days ago. Initially he was sleeping most of the day and night but was able to give a thumbs up (wiggle toes) when asked during his neurological function exams. As the days have progressed he's become more awake and more responsive.
Yesterday, was a huge improvement relative to the days prior and he's become so present that he's able to respond to yes /no questions (head nod) with regularity. As the days have progressed Jr's becomte more awake and more and more interactive!
We are also celebrating the fact that they took the ventilator out of his room last night which means he'll be able to move out of the ICU today thumbs upfistbicepspraying
This is an enormously important milestone for Christopher as it means he is one step closer to moving into a TBI inpatient rehabilitation center.
Christopher is a fighter and his work ethic is off the chart when he really wants to go after something! The road ahead is at times scary looking for sure but I know that with God all things are possible praying
We are so deeply moved by the Love and support we've received and see the results of all our prayers unfolding before our very eyes praying Please continue to think of and pray for Christopher everyday praying and see this thru with us to its happy and healthy conclusion praying
I am writing this update (and account of what happened) with gratitude in my heart and want to thank Bryton Carroll, his parents (Stacey & Brian) and everyone thats prayed for Christopher's full recovery and / or made a contribution to help make sure that he can receive the best possible care
All the best, Chris
Ps - I'll continue to update you as we go along
*********WE REACHED OUR STARTING GOAL OF $5,000******** (HUGE UPDATE) We spoke to Chris's dad today and Chris had an amazing break through! To start off the day he opened his eyes for his first time for a few minutes and is now responding with minimal movement. Although he is still sedated he's been making outstanding improvements. Just yesterday chris had his chest tube removed and is able to breathe on his own. Chris and his family have a long road to recovery taking it day by day. Chris's family is so thankful and blown away with the amount of love, support, kind words, and prayers from not only friends and family but the moto community as well. After reading everyones comments, as suggested we have gone and raised our goal to $20,000 ******* PLEASE KEEP SHARING and SPREADING THE WORD****** Thank you, god bless!!
As most of you know Chris Feeley a motocross rider #10 from Chatham NJ got injured during a Motocross training sesh this past weekend in north Carolina . My son Bryton Carroll #48 & Chris are best friends and thru their love of dirtbikes & racing motocross they have become more like brothers. Christopher has spent several weeks, months at our home in south jersey riding & racing & traveling with us from race to race, he is like having another son to our family.
Bryton drove down to NC with Christopher & his father for a few days of riding, training and enjoying their time with family, friends & other moto riders. Once Bryton was back home Chris ended up getting injured actually on his birthday and his dad sent the following updates:
Chris was unconscious for about 8.5 hours before he started to respond (squeeze fingers, wiggle toes intermittently)last night. he is on a ventilator and has a chest tube in. He broke 5-6 ribs, his collar bone, his shoulder blade, & fractured c7 of his spine. Lung injury (air in chest cavity hence the chest tube)His CT scan last night looked ok with out any obvious signs of traumatic brain injury. he does have some small spots of bleeding & wont really know anyhing until he wakes up
Chris has been sedated all night and the plan is to wean the sedation gradually today & hopefully take him off the ventilator & get the breathing tube out of his throat.
His father spoke to doctors again its just a waiting game . He still hasnt woken up yet & the firstn 48 hours is key. once an MRI is done they will know more about his brain injury.
Please help the Feeley family with donations for any medical expenses, and medical bills, testing, possible aftercare , & anything unforseen. There may be traveling expenses, hotel & food & gas expenses for chris's dad since Chris does not live in North Carolina but he is hospitalized in NC.
I always say Motocross is not just a sport its a lifestyle & its one of the biggest family oriented sports out there. When one of ours gets injured the whole Moto community feel it. lets all pull together share, share, share this page for Chris & his family & lets show people what moto is all about Chris needs your support , love & prayers, help Bryton hit his goal of $5000 for Chris....................we want to see every one of your social media pages blowing up for Chris, get his story out there. #motolife #chrisfeeley#10
