Help Me Save My Sight — Eye Surgery for Keratoconus

This isn’t easy for me to write, but I’m reaching out because I need help.

I havent really talked about this much but, I’ve been dealing with a progressive eye condition called keratoconus. Over the past 3 years, my vision has been getting worse quickly—so much so that even with my glasses on, I can no longer see people’s faces clearly from a distance. At work, patients and coworkers wave to me across the room, and I have to wave back without knowing who it is. I’ve had to lean in so close to my computer that my face is almost touching the screen. Tasks that require attention to detail—something I take a lot of pride in—are becoming harder and harder.

There is a procedure called corneal cross-linking that can stop the condition from getting worse, and thankfully, I’m scheduled for surgery in both eyes—the left on July 7, and the right on August 18. After that, I’ll need special contact lenses to restore my vision as much as possible.

The total cost after insurance is $12,500, and unfortunately, it has to be paid up front before I can proceed. As a medical assistant, I don’t make a large income, and this is a big financial hit all at once. I’ve always been the one helping others—especially my patients—but now I’m asking for help so I can keep doing the work I love.
