Raising funds honoring the memory of Chris Dang

Donation protected
Dear Friends & Family —

We are heartbroken to share something deeply personal to our loving ohana. On January 18, 2025, Chris Dang passed away surrounded by family at the age of 49 after a courageous battle with cancer. In 2021 he was diagnosed with stage four GIST cancer.

Chris was a devoted father, beloved husband, cherished son, gregarious older brother, adored uncle, and trusted friend. He will leave behind wife Katherine, together nearly 20 years, and twin daughters, Gwen (13) and Chloe (13) who were the light of his life. Whether helping them with school projects, teaching them to cook his favorite recipes, adventure travels near and far, or exploring the latest tech gadgets together, Chris cherished every moment with his children. He will also leave behind his parents, Fred and Jeannie Dang, and his siblings, Kathy, David, and Sarah, as well as their families. Coworkers, community, neighbors, and friends will miss his good nature and generous spirit. Growing up in Vancouver, Washington, childhood friends impacted by this loss will include those he made at Saint Joe’s Parish School, Central Catholic High School, and the University of Washington.

Since his initial diagnosis, Chris has continued as a profoundly hard working prosthetist and orthotist at the Long Beach Veterans Administration, supporting veterans, through leadership as well as developing artificial limbs. Chris was deeply committed to improving the lives of his patients, helping them regain mobility and independence. His work was not just a job, but a calling that reflected his compassion and selflessness.

Chris also loved cooking especially on the grill and often spent a good part of the day cooking and feeding the people around him. He was a tech enthusiast who found joy in exploring the latest innovations, especially with space and science, always eager to learn and share his discoveries and discuss what the future may hold. Chris, always the risk taker, pushed his physical limits spending the last several years cherishing every moment and seizing the day.

Katherine truly values most the loving presence and emotional support that she has received from friends and loved ones during this time to help keep their lives as stable as possible. His passing has left an irreplaceable void and we want to honor Chris’ legacy by giving him the memorial service that he deserves. This is a chance for his loved ones to come together, celebrate his life, and remember the incredible person that he was.

We are raising funds to cover the costs of Chris' memorial service, burial expenses, and support for Gwen and Chloe during this difficult time. Whether it be your emotional support, a monetary donation, sharing our story, or sending prayers and positive healing vibes, all is accepted and very much appreciated.

Any donation, big or small, will make a meaningful difference and help us honor Chris’ memory. Your generosity will also provide some relief to his family as they navigate this challenging time. Please share this fundraiser with your networks to help us reach our goal.

As memorial plans develop you can get more information on the Caring Bridge page that’s being established. Check back on this page for details as the link becomes available.
