Chris Crusan End of Life Expenses
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Briana, and I am asking for help with the funeral and living expenses needed to complete my little brother's affairs.
Pictured in the cover photo (left to right): Me, my younger sister Nicci, our mother Lina, and our younger brother Chris. This photo was taken about 10 years ago when Nicci married in Texas. At that time, Chris lived in Portland, ME, and our mother and I had been living in Minneapolis, MN.
Earlier this year, Chris decided to move from Portland, ME to Washington State. We were born there in Seattle, near where our father's family originally homesteaded. Some of the Corliss family stills lives there, along with our half-sister Ingrid. She and her family hosted him many times in his youth.
Chris said he was ready to make a change. So we wished him well, hoping that he would find some inspiration and new meaning in his life. Talking to Chris over the summer, he expressed no interest in people and frustrations around finding work. He began to turn inward, saying he was happy to 'be a hermit' in his extended stay hotel, playing video games and waiting for a sign of which direction he should take.
Three days ago, we received news that Chris committed suicide via firearm on Sunday, 10/2/22, in the early morning hours, in Ocean Shores, WA. He left no note for us and the police could only find our mother because of records at the VA. After several days of phone calls and inquiries, it's clear we must go to Washington to collect his remains and possessions.
Our current plan is to have his body cremated in WA and scatter his ashes on the coast where he died. Mom and I will be joined by my sisters Nicci and Ingrid in saying goodbye. We are also retrieving his vehicle and any other effects and driving them back to MN. We may have a small memorial at my house upon our return.
Due to the sudden and unexpected nature of this event, Mom and I are barely able to cover all the costs involved:
Travel to and from Washington - Hotels, airfare, food, gas, etc.
Cost of cremation
Impound lot fee
Lein on his vehicle
We are asking our friends and family to chip in if they can to help us with these and any other costs that may come up. We thank you in advance for your generosity and compassion. Losing someone this way is shocking, and the grief is real.
Chris was 39 years old, never married, and had no kids. He never took much interest in life for himself. Instead, like our father, Chris preferred to focus on the realms of spirit - living in dreams and intuitions, using his bright mind to contemplate the mysteries of life. Those close to Chris remember him as a great friend with a big heart and a great sense of humor. Ingrid's daughters remember him as 'Uncle Chris' who cared for them after school. For the rest of us, he will be remembered fondly as someone who never quite found his place in life. We pray he has found peace.
