Chris Chappell’s Project, Band of Builders
Meet Chris, a bricklayer and general builder from Torpoint in Cornwall.
Chris found out by chance that he has an aggressive form of spinal multiple sclerosis (MS) as well as being diagnosed with epilepsy 18 months ago after experiencing a series of seizures and fits.
Chris currently uses walking aids and a Motability scooter however his condition will continue to deteriorate, requiring use of a wheelchair.
As well as being a skilled builder, Chris is a father of seven and is the family cook. His signature dish is a Sunday roast with all the trimmings however he struggles to get around the kitchen and has had numerous falls trying to open his low-level oven.
THE PROJECT:
Band of Builders aims to remodel Chris’s kitchen to make it accessible and wheelchair friendly. A new bespoke kitchen has been donated by AKW Medi-Care Limited, and the project will see the installation of this kitchen, with features including a rise-and-fall worktop that houses a hob and sink. It will also feature pull down baskets and a pull-out larder which will make it easier for Chris to use his storage and cupboards.
WHEN:
Chris’ project is planned for 13th - 20th May. We are appealing for chippies, plasterers, sparks, floorlayers, tilers and plumbers to get involved in the project to help Chris and his family.
