Chris Blakley Recovery Fund

On the morning of Monday, December 17th, Chris began experiencing confusion, fever, and prolonged sickness. An ambulance was called to her address around 11 am and they came just in time. Not long after being in the ambulance, Chris began to have seizures. In the Tuomey ER, many tests were completed to try to give an accurate diagnosis. After her health continued to decline, the decision was made to fly her to the Richland Neuro ICU. Early Tuesday morning, Chris was intubated and sedated so they could complete follow up tests.

The Neurology and Infectious disease doctors diagnosed Chris with Encephalitis. Luckily, she had already been started on the appropriate medications at Tuomey as a precaution.

Since Tuesday, Chris has been extubated, taken off all sedation medications, and has been removed from feeding tubes and oxygen. Physically she has made huge strides - walking to bathroom, taking care of her hygiene needs and no permanent damage has been found as far as her physical capabilities. She has also made some improvements with her memory and speech, but we know after assessments from ST, OT and PT that she has a long road ahead of her and will require extensive therapies in the next few weeks and months.

With very little insurance coverage - Chris will struggle financially in the months ahead. One of her daughters will need to quit her job to be able to take care of Chris at home while she recovers after her Acute Rehab stay at Tuomey. Another daughter will be traveling back and forth from Lexington a few days a week to help as well.

Any donation provided will go to help pay off Chris’ medical bills and to help Chris with weekly financial needs such as groceries, house needs, etc.
