Chris and Nikki Webster

Hi. My name is Nikki Webster. My husband Chris and I live in Lexington, KY with our grandmother. About six months ago I was diagnosed with diabetic retinopathy. Unfortunately it was discoverer at an advanced stage and has severely damaged my vision. I have not been able to work since November. The good news is that treatment including laser therapy and surgery has helped a lot and I should be able to work again within a few months. Right now I am waiting for a visit to a low vision specialist. The waiting list was months long so I don’t go until June. I do receive a disability benefit at the time but it is much smaller than my paycheck was. I also now have insurance and medical expenses that are much higher. When I lost my job I had just met deductible so when I went onto my husband’s insurance I had to meet a new one: Also, our tax refund will be delayed significantly this year. We have cut costs to be able to afford things. We also exhausted my modest 401k account to help. Unfortunately this did not last long so we are now in a scary financial situation. Again, I should be working again soon but I am scared that it may get overwhelming and we could risk losing our vehicles, utilities, etc. We do not qualify for traditional assistance programs because our income is still above poverty level. We are trying to avoid a drastic step like bankruptcy over a very temporary problem. Any help that can be given to us would be appreciated and we most definitely would pay it forward.
