Support Christopher Geary

On October 22nd, Christopher Geary checked himself into Reston hospital with an abnormal and racing heartbeat. By the 24th of October, his condition continued to decline and he was diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) and was experiencing heart failure. Chris currently is being kept alive by an ECMO machine, which is circulating his blood and doing his heart's job for him. At the young age of 39, his heart is no longer functional for reasons that doctors do not completely understand. Due to multiple reasons, he is not a candidate for a heart transplant. The only chance Chris has to survive will be to undergo open-heart surgery that will install one of several potential cardiovascular devices that will enable his heart to beat strongly and consistently enough to sustain life. Before this surgery can occur, his blood oxygenation and other biomarkers must be strong enough to survive the surgery. Chris is currently at Inova Schar ICU and being monitored hourly while we wait for the aforementioned markers to improve. In the meantime, his newlywed wife Ariel is sleeping at the hospital most nights and staying by his side throughout each day.

Anyone who reads this who knows Chris Geary and has spent any time with him is devastated. Chris is a truly kind person, sometimes to a fault and at his own expense. His selflessness has been a cornerstone of his life ever since he joined the U.S. Navy in 2007. As an Intelligence Specialist, Chris deployed to multiple warzones to assist U.S. Navy SEALs in counterterrorism operations in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Philippines. After separating from active duty in 2016, Chris's service to his country continues as an intelligence analyst for multiple contracting companies, providing U.S. warfighters with the information they need to protect themselves and combat our nations' enemies. Chris has spent his life giving to others, including family, friends, and strangers.

While Chris is recovering in the ICU, significant medical expenses are accumulating that go beyond what his health insurance will cover. Please offer anything you can that will help offset these costs and keep Chris and Ariel from experiencing additional financial burden in the fight to keep Chris alive and in our lives.
