Chris & Emily Scott Fire Recovery

The Scott family finally found their forever home, the one they envisioned raising their three beautiful children in. Envisioned their kids digging in the dirt and making sweet memories in. They moved in and unpacked and, as Emily described through tears to me “it really felt like home...we hung family photos in the hallway just this week...it felt like HOME.”

Just 36 days after moving in, before they even made their first house payment, their home was tragically destroyed in the Carr Fire near Redding, California. They had mere minutes to grab what belongings they could and flee from the encroaching flames.

They lost everything. EVERYTHING. Everything but each other. When I let that sink in for myself, it’s gut wrenching. The brand new living room furniture, newly purchased master bedroom furniture, kids favorite toys and favorite bedtime books. Favorite stuffed animals. School clothes. Work clothes. Underwear. Favorite unicorn and dinosaur pjs...you know...the ones that feel just right and make toddlers feel safe and warm. Wedding dress. Photo albums. Imprints of their children’s feet as infants. Handmade Christmas ornaments we all treasure from our young kiddos. Precious, irreplaceable family items filled with memories. The painful list goes on and on as the memories of what they lost continue to surface.
So many special things are gone forever, but it’s the mundane, everyday items that are frustratingly obvious for them right now. Food. Clothes. Toiletries. The everyday things we take for granted that all suddenly need to be replaced simultaneously, when they are the absolute last things people in this position want to worry about.
If you have the means, please consider donating so these everyday items can be replaced. Chris, the husband, is a therapist and will return to work NEXT WEEK to support others who have also lost everything. Emily, my best friend and fellow female PhD, is an amazing mother, a blogger, a parent trainer and so much more. Ally, age 6 is a creative and intelligent girl who loves unicorns, princesses, and reading to her brothers. Everett, age 4, loves all things dinosaurs and sharks. Sawyer, age 2, loves his brother and sister, Pooh Bear, and his four dogs who were saved from the destructive flames.
My heart breaks for all those who are experiencing loss from this fire. My prayers are with them all. Join me in prayer or monetary support so the Scott family can address both their immediate needs, as well as those that will continue to surface in the weeks and months to come.

Per the needs of the GoFund Me campaign:
I am friends of the Scott family and I formally lived in Redding, CA and now live in Portland, Oregon. The funds will be spent on clothing, toiletries, food, shoes, household needs and replacement items as they rebuild they home. The beneficiaries have direct access to the funds and the withdrawal of these funds do not need to go through me.
