A few weeks ago we found a dog roaming our cul-de-sac and recognized him as belonging to our neighbor a few doors down. We called him to us and immediately the happy boy came running, wagging his tail to say hello. We knocked on our neighbor’s door to confirm it was his dog. He explained to us that his dog, Chops, was a bit of an escape artist and thanked us for getting him home. A few days later our neighbor returned. He wanted to know if we would like to take Chops permanently. He recognized that he just didn’t have the time or capacity to care for him anymore and saw how much care we took to make sure Chops was returned home safely.
Our home is at full capacity with two dogs, two cats and two reptiles but our hearts yearned to make sure Chops was well taken care of. We told our neighbor we may not be able to keep him permanently but we would be willing to foster while we work on finding him a forever home. About a week or so went by and our neighbor made the most loving decision he could for Chops by surrendering him over to us. We know how very loved Chops was by his previous owner- he has the most amazingly sweet attitude and eagerness to please. We can appreciate what a difficult decision it must have been.
Chops was in need of a good bath, dog supplies, nutrition (he is a bit underweight), flea and tick prevention, and a trip to the vet to get all vaccinations, microchipped, and neutered. All these expenses add up. We’re putting it out there to our friends, family, and dog lovers should they wish to contribute to Chops’ care while we prepare him for adoption to his forever home ❤️
