Hi, my name is chad and I'm currently a Sophomore at marietta college in Ohio and living close to the Minneapolis area.
On around 03/15/2020 I woke up with double vision and unknowingly was unable to move my left eye all the way to the left. The vision problem continued to slowly get worse within the next couple weeks, but I hadn't thought much of it since I thought I was just experiencing vision problems from being on my computer too much from school work. After I finished up my sophomore year the vision problems persisted so I went to the optometrist and she diagnosed me with sixth nerve palsy and immediately sent me to get an MRI.
On 04/27/2020 a day after my 21st birthday I was diagnosed with an extremely rare cancerous brain tumor called a chondrosarcoma (.15% rare), that doesn't respond well with radiation therapy. Over the passed month my vision has gotten worse (I am no longer able to see straight), I always have a pulsating headache, and occasionally suffer from speech problems. The brain tumor is located behind my left eye pressing on my left frontal lobe, important nerves, and is intimate with my brain stem. It is unknown if my vision will ever go back to normal and other complications could occur from the surgery.
The surgery is scheduled for 6/2/2020 which will determine what grade the chondrosarcoma is and if other treatments are required. Overall, I have been optimistic about the whole situation and that the surgery will go well.
I turned to gofundme since my family has recently taken a 20% decrease in salary because of the coronavirus and brain tumor treatment is expensive, so i'm trying to ease the financial burden on my family as much as possible.
Anything helps, thank you:)
