September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and this year it carries a painful weight, as a dear friend and long-time Oncology colleague of mine lost her daughter to an aggressive, incurable brain tumor.
On February 23, 2025, Chloe’s journey with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a rare and aggressive pediatric brain tumor, came to an end. She was 10 years old, and in those years she lived with bold honesty, never afraid to be herself. Chloe was a vivacious, Pokémon-loving girl, always up for an adventure, full of energy, and carried a light that drew people to her. Her absence leaves an unfillable space in the lives of her family and everyone who loved her.
Chloe was deeply loved by her mom, Erin, her sister, Mila, her loyal companion, Koa, and by Cam, who has been a steady and loving father figure, cherishing Chloe as his own. She grew up surrounded by love, and that love will carry her family forward as they face life without her.
As Erin, Cam, Mila, and Koa move through this profound loss, they are also faced with the practical realities that follow. Erin, a nurse in Haematology/Oncology/BMT at SickKids, the very hospital where Chloe was diagnosed and treated, has understandably not yet been able to return to work. Every hallway and every memory there is tied to Chloe’s journey. What the family needs most now is time to grieve and begin to heal, without the added pressure of financial strain.
This GoFundMe has been created to support Chloe’s family by easing their financial burden so Erin and Cam can focus on what truly matters: remembering Chloe, supporting Mila, grieving their loss, and slowly beginning to rebuild. Funds raised will go directly to the family to help provide Erin the time away from work that she so desperately needs. Time to grieve, to rest, to recover, and to find strength in the midst of heartbreak.
No parent should have to endure the unbearable grief and financial stress at the same time. Your contribution, no matter the amount, will help lighten their burden. If you are unable to give, sharing this fundraiser with others is just as meaningful. Most importantly, your support shows Erin, Cam, and Mila that they are not alone as they learn to navigate life without Chloe.
Chloe’s life was cut far too short, but her impact was lasting. Thank you for honoring her memory by standing alongside Erin, Cam, Mila, and Koa during this difficult time as they slowly learn how to heal from this loss, together.
