Chloe-Mai's Wildlife Incubator
Donation protected
Hello, I'm a student veterinary nurse based in Falmouth, Cornwall and rescue and rehabilitate wildlife. I work with West Cornwall Wildlife Volunteers and have been inundated with animals this year due to other rescue centres closing due to COVID-19. Over the last few months, I have taken in 28 gull chicks, 5 sparrows, 3 hoglets, 4 Mice, 8 pigeons and 4 Wrens just to name a few !
Heat is so important as young animals aren't able to regulate their own body temperature and is an important part of treating shock as well. So far I have been using snuggle safes to keep my animals warm but these need reheating every couple of hours and don't give a reliable temperature which is essential in very young animals so I would love to have an incubator to do this to improve their chances of survival.
The video below is of a very young gull chick I picked up at 10pm during a storm. I found it on its back, too weak to turn over and freezing cold. The first clip may be upsetting to watch but it has a happy ending <3
I don't receive any funding and rely completely on donations to carry on doing what I do. I hope to raise enough money to purchase a Brinsea TLC 30 Advance Portable Brooder. It can come with a car adaptor so I can take it to rescues and transport animals whilst keeping them warm if needed. The advanced model had a digital thermostat with an alarm if the temperature falls out of range to be safer for the animals.
