Chivalrous Charmie, Heroic effort injures RN

In the early morning hours of Thursday October 10th, 2019 just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, our mother, sister, aunt and friend was on her way to work. As she traveled she came upon a serious accident.
Without hesitation, she exited her vehicle and ran to where the vehicle had collided into the tree. A gentleman nearby asked her if she was a nurse, as there was another victim who was pinned down below, underneath a semi truck. A long time nurse of both labor/delivery and hospice patients, Aunt Charmaine knew she needed to help.
The semi truck had plummeted 25 ft. below barreling through the fence barrier. The urgent plea of the man and with her concern for the victim in trouble, her mind started to race. Does this man need CPR? Is he bleeding?
Aunt Charmaine began to run to where there was an opening, she needed to get to him quickly. As it was still in the early morning hours, it was dark and what appeared to be just a short descent was much more than she had anticipated. As she slipped cautiously down the cement wall, she quickly realized the drop was much further and she fell approximately 7 feet.
Unfortunately as she fell it resulted in a shattered tibia/fibula plateau and she broke her tibia the length of the bone. A police officer assisted her as she cried out for help. She was unable to move from the excruciating pain. The officer contacted 911, where she was then transported to a local hospital.
October 10th was a day anticipated to be celebrated with much joy, as Aunt Charmaine was scheduled to assist, (as a labor and delivery nurse) in the arrival of her newest grandson. Sadly the magnitude of her heroic effort, to help another in need resulted in a significant injury, surgery and subsequently missing the delivery of her newest grandson.
The surgery resulted in a plate and screws being placed to correct the shattered bone. Aunt Charmaine will be unable to work for quite some time as she begins the healing process.
Medical expenses are mounting and she has a long road of recovery ahead of her. Many have asked how they can assist my Aunt Charmaine at this time, please consider donating to assist them financially. ALL funds raised from this account will be given directly to her.
To know our Aunt Charmaine is to love her. She is always about the greater work of serving others. Sitting with those who are near death, she comforts them and is a friend to them in their end of life care. She loves and comforts new mothers as they welcome their new babies into this world. A friend to many, she will sit with you. She will hold your hand. She will stop on the side of the road. She will be the one to rescue you.
