Our Story

Our friend Chitra Iyer needs our help. Chitra was diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer at the end of 2016.  She is now undergoing and responding well to chemo. She has limited mobility right now, and her mom is taking care of all the cooking, cleaning,  and other household work, as well as caring for Chitra.  With Shilpa applying to college and Neil transitioning to high school next year, they have a lot on their plate.  All of us would be there to help her in person if we could.

Chitra and her mom have found someone to come in 3 times a week for a couple hours just to help out with some of Chitra's care, housework, and errands. The cost is $90.   The cost for four months of help is $1440. The assistance is very needed, but it is an additional expense at a time when they are facing medical and other expenses.   

How You Can Help

Since we can't be there in person to help, those of us who live far away could take on this cost for a few months as a way to support Chitra at this time.  

It took me awhile to convince her to set up this donation. She is not big on asking for help, but I have convinced her that now was the time to accept some help from all those who love her and that we all selfishly needed to be able to help in some way.
