My name is Lee J. Downs. I am beginning my doctorate in chiropractic medicine at Parker College of Chiropractic. My first term starts in May 2026. I am adding chiropractic medicine to my credentials so that I can meld ergonomics engineering and chiropractic medicine into one business. In this way, I can be of the greatest service to my customers/patients.
I finished my pre-chiropractic coursework with a GPA of 3.66 on a 4.0 scale. I study 10 - 20 hrs/day during the terms.
My Background for Chiropractic Medicine:
Preparation for Chiropractic Medicine Studies:
I am very dedicated to chiropractic medicine.
I have researched, prepared, and yes, studied for the field for many years. With studies including, but not limited to Inorganic and organic chemistry, physics, anatomy and physiology, exercise physiology, general biomechanics, biomechanics of the musculoskeletal system, kinesiology, bacteriology, microbiology, logic and psychology-based coursework, statistics, calculus and research methods. I used this background to prepare for ergonomics engineering. In returning to chiropractic medicine studies, the American Chiropractic Association required me to repeat the fundamental hard sciences. That cost me $17,000.
I am melding ergonomics engineering and chiropractic medicine to treat the whole person. Chiropractic Medicine, in general, relies on the practice of root cause analysis. I see logic and critical thinking as fundamental to making sound judgments. Especially those that involve other people who are depending on the decision made by their physician.
What brought me to Ergonomics engineering and chiropractic medicine:
I began my college career as a guitar performance major. Years later, I suffered a career-ending strain-sprain to the second metacarpophalangeal joint area tendons and musculature of my right hand. The second and third digits swelled to the point of preventing full flexion or extension for the next seven years. Thus, I left classical guitar and went into studying for ergonomics engineering and chiropractic medicine.
I have known many chiropractors and thus have seen many techniques and variations on adjustments within those techniques. Keeping what I learned in mind, long before I decided to enter the profession.
The founding principle of ergonomics engineering is Root cause analysis. In ergonomics engineering, one must find the root cause of the problem and remedy that cause. The problem can be resolved. I find chiropractic medicine to have the same founding principle as a focus to correct the problems of patients, be they biomechanical or physiological. Not just treating or masking symptomology. All while keeping sight of the mind-body connection within each patient.
One of the reasons I seek a doctorate in chiropractic medicine is that I as an ergonomics engineer must refer people to a chiropractor for treatment of current biomechanical conditions. I can correct the cause of poor posture or biomechanics, but I cannot solve the current alignment issues where subluxations exist. I want to be able to treat the whole condition by being qualified to handle the chiropractic side.
Purpose of my career:
I am as excited and enthusiastic as I have ever been, even more so, to do just that for the good of as many people as I can reach through my unique and logical career path.
What brought me to seek a degree in chiropractic medicine
As a classical guitarist, I have a special interest in ergonomics, as injury prevention and rehabilitation for musicians. Especially biomechanics of the hand. A hand injury ended my career in classical guitar. Treating and preventing hand injuries will be an area of special emphasis in my chiropractic practice. As a musician, I applied the disciplines of science (Physics and kinesiology.) and mathematics to facilitate the playing of music. Now I will apply evidence-based protocols to the treatment and prevention of injuries for all people, but especially for the needs of musicians and artists. Yet, I will accept patients as a primary care physician within the scope of practice of chiropractic medicine.
My focus on designing devices, spaces, and systems for safety and efficiency, by definition, means that I have an emphasis on life-long learning. This is evidenced by my desire to continue my education to be useful to people in this full-scope role. After having completed many years of university studies in 12 departments at a major university. Most of those hours focused on design, reasoning and logic, mathematics, and the sciences.
I completed my pre-chiropractic studies in 2022 through distance learning at Parker College of Chiropractic. They are located in Dallas, TX. I paid for the pre-chiropractic coursework ($17,200) and the purchase of most of the hard-science textbooks used in the doctoral program ($650+ so far) out of personal resources, primarily from a personal injury settlement.
In 2021, purchased a 1996 Toyota Tacoma and a high-top camper shell ($4300 also from settlement) to use for the trip to Dallas, TX, and back so that I do not have to rent a moving truck. Working with great mechanics, I have brought it "up to speed" ($23,000+ out of meager hourly wages earned through a day-job.) The truck is in excellent working order. I worked an hourly job while completing the pre-chiropractic studies and after their completion.
I can take the first eight (8) terms of doctoral classes, all hard-science courses, online.
Under a full-time program, this would be four terms. The tuition costs are the same as being on campus. However, using the distance learning option gives me more time to prepare for the move to Dallas, TX.
I plan to take 14 trimesters to complete the program.

I need financial help because the immensity of the doctoral program studies will take up all of my time. I cannot work during the terms, nor the very short 2-3 week breaks between terms. Tuition to Parker College of Chiropractic will cost $13,247 per term. Plus books and supplies. Until they raise the tuition or student fees. At the current tuition rate, my total cost for all 14 terms will be at least $185,458. I selected the category "other" under which to list my request for help because I need both education and living expense help. I am seeking to borrow as little as possible. I will remain in Orange County, California, until December 2027. I need a quieter place to study but cannot afford a higher rent. My research indicates that rent in the Dallas area will cost $700/mo. for the remaining 8 terms--2-2/3 years. ($22,344). The business will be expensive to set up when I start my practice.
When I finish my first six (6) terms in the Parker College of Chiropractic Medicine doctoral program in December 2028, I will immediately shift to finishing my packing for the move to the Dallas area, while still studying. This task will take every second of my time. I must also start studying for the next term, which starts January 2, 2029. I will leave OC by December 20, 2028.
After I graduate from Parker College of Chiropractic, I will return to Orange County, California, to serve the people of Orange County, California, through my business, which will meld Ergonomics Engineering and Chiropractic Medicine.
Right now, I do ergonomics design through my very small business.
I have a website for my business; https://ergosolutionsca.wixsite.com/ergosolutions
I will return to California after I graduate because Conservatives need to take back California. For the good of the whole nation. How will I do this? I vote and encourage other Conservatives to learn about the issues and candidates and to vote. We also need voter ID and same-day voting. (My thanks to Huntington Beach, CA!)
Thank you for your support.
