Hello, My name is Theresa and I'm fundraising on behalf of my entire family for My precious Aunt Chiquita, Cousin Chara and nephew Metlin.
The funds raised will provide for Chara, Chick's and Merlin with necessities such as food, shelter, replace damaged furniture and clothing. These funds will enable them to keep on top of their bills whilst Chara is unable to generate an income. Chara explains below.
To everyone that sent messages and love and prayers we thank you. And we continue to pray for the island of Jamaica. A most
resilient and magical island. Our home. Our heart.
We are safe and had quite the adventure. But we are luckier than most.
The night was almost haunting. The sounds of the wind hurt our ears at times. Merlin was a champ, but the night was long.
We lost parts of our roof, we could not see the damage during the storm and didn't want it all to collapse on us so the three of us ended up sleeping in the kitchen for safety. When we woke we found Merlins bedroom and my bedroom with the roof partially collapsed and it trailed downstairs in another room... where Merlin was playing during the storm. We were all out of harms way.
We made it through the night and rain poured into our home.
This morning we walked around and beloved spots in our community were wiped out. It was heart breaking. But what was beautiful was the community city all out helping each other. Everyone staying in touch and making sure everyone was alright.
We are safe. We are together.
This message is seeking help to help us transition. The problem is, we have no idea right now at what that transition looks like.
I am unable to work as I need power and internet to do that. Which we do not have and it is unpredictable as to when it will be up.
When the damage happened, my first thought was that we will have to move.. but after clearing everything out, we could essentially stay if we can get roofers in to fix the roof. Unfortunately there's a backlog of work that needs to be done on roofs in jamaica... we have people on it though. So we could get someone within the week or the month. We just don't know. What we don't want is mold.
We could try and find a temporary place to stay...
We could stay put and pray for roofers..
We could move to another place altogether
We are just so unsure of how this is going to go.
Right now the three of us are cozy in my mother's room that had alot of water damage.. so if we cannot find someone soon we will have to make some sudden decisions.
We just don't know.
What we do know is that we will need support in order to make any of these decisions. Our resources are limited, we had to borrow just to get the necessary provisions for the aftermath of the storm.
Also if anyone has a home in jamaica that they could rent the three of us that is reasonable (we have a tight budget) please reach out to me! We need options, I think. We are still a little disoriented but full of gratitude.
Any assistance would truly be a blessing.
On behalf of Chara, Chiquita and Merlin,
We thank you Sincerely for your compassion and prayers.
Theresa and Families.
