Chippenham Cavaliers mixed ability Rugby team are proud to be organising a fantastic and groundbreaking initiative – the first ever Mixed Ability Rugby Tour for the Cavaliers. The Chippenham Cavaliers Mixed Ability Rugby team is truly inclusive, it’s a place where everyone can play from ex-players to those with additional needs naturally and without distinction.

This isn’t just a weekend away – it’s a chance to set an example in inclusive sport, build lifelong friendships, and give people with learning disabilities and autistic people the opportunity to experience something they might never otherwise be able to.

Why it Matters -

Many people with learning disabilities don’t have the opportunity to go on trips like this, as it’s often outside the scope of what’s funded in typical care packages. This tour opens the door to:

Friendship – Meeting new people, bonding as a team, and connecting with others across the UK

Confidence – Trying new things, stepping out of comfort zones, and taking on challenges together

Inclusion – Showing that rugby, and sport more widely, is for everyone

We believe everyone should have the chance to experience the joy and pride of being part of a team – and this caviliers rugby tour helps make that possible.

About the Tour -

The tour will see the team travel from Chippenham to Exeter for a weekend packed with sport, teamwork, and fun. We will travel down together, kicking off the weekend with team spirit on the bus. On Saturday, we are excited to take part in a Mixed Ability Rugby match against an Exeter-based team before finishing the Sunday with Dragon boat racing – a team-building challenge with plenty of laughs and (and hopefully not too many!) splashes.

As far as we are aware, this will be a first-of-its-kind tour for a Mixed Ability rugby team, and a chance for team members to take part in something truly special.

To help raise the money we need to make the tour happen, we’re hosting a special Mixed Ability Rugby Match and Fundraiser Evening at Chippenham Rugby Club:

Friday 29th August: 5.00pm - 23.00

Rugby Match: 6.30pm – 7.30pm

Live Band, Garden games & BBQ – everyone welcome!

The event will shine a light on the power of Mixed Ability Rugby, raise awareness of the importance of inclusion in sport, and help fund this unique experience for our players.

Everyone will have a role to play – and we’re especially proud that Dom, one of the residents of Cocklebury farmhouse, is taking the lead as Tour President in organising the event. It’s a brilliant example of how sport empowers people to grow, take ownership, and thrive.
