Chio's Tuition Fund

Hello my name is Chioneso Bakr and I'm a senior acting major at Adelphi University, in Garden City,  NY.  I have to say my first three years of my undergraduate career was an amazing learning experience and I can't wait to finish my senior year strong. In my previous years at Adelphi,  I was nominated for 'Outstanding First Year Award', was a member of The Adelphi University Dance Team and The Hip Hop Team, and obtained a job working in the theatre department, and started working for Public Safety Event Staff, and was avarded the position of Treasurer for Black Students United 2015-2016. In addition to that, I was recognized for artistic excellence in African Dance  in 2014 by the National Young Arts Foundation,  I managed to keep a 3.4 and my Talent Scholarship of $11,000 during those years, maintaing a tight schedule with school and dancing commerically outside of school. With the great help of my parent's income and federal loans and grants, we were able to meet the tuition demands for the first year, and for the previous years with me living at home.
My parents have chosen non-traditional routes in their careers and are both professional teaching artists, (my mother is a professional storyteller and my father is a professional musician). Any freelance artist can tell you income can be sporadic and/or inconsistent. Nevertheless, my parents worked tirelessly, creatively, and sometimes through illness to ensure that the balance, (approx. $12,000) was paid. This coming year, they/are expected to pay more, (approx. $20,000). In gratitude, I would like to lighten my parents' burden by raising money through this fund. Even though I have two work study jobs and outside gigs, I'm doing all I can to help out. My parents have made a difference in this world as artists, and I hope to do the same by following in their footsteps. Please join me in my quest for a college education which will provide the stepping stones to help me graduate with my Bachelors in Fine Arts in May 2017. Any donation will be appreciated.
