The Kyambura Gorge Chimpanzee community is a small  isolated population (24 chimps) in Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda.

The chimpanzee community is on the verge of extinction

A  migration corridor needs to be restored  to give this population the ability for long-term survival.

* No chimpanzees have immigrated to Kyambura Gorge     since records began in 2006.

* The population has been ilsolated for as many as 20         years.

* The lack of females born in Kyambura means the next      generation has no reproductive options.

This photo represents the last generation of chimpanzees in Kyambura Gorge.

I began studying the Kyambura chimpanzees in 2006 and continue to work closely with the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) in their conservation and monitoring efforts of this fragile community.

The Uganda Wildlife Authority has approved my proposal to establish a woodland corridor that will link Kyambura Gorge to Maramagambo Forest, where a healthy population of chimpanzees thrive.

Creating a corridor
 corridor should be a minimum of 6.25 kilometers long       in order to reach the first woods of Maramagambo Fr.
 requires creating a narrow strip of savanna woodland       from Kyambura Gorge to Maramagambo.
 a width of 10 meters is expected to be sufficient for     providing adequate resource abundance (i.e. fruit trees  and shrubs).

Along with tthe corridor creation, guide training workshops will take place quarterly.  The workshops will provide rangers and guides with the tools they need to ensure long-term monitoring and protection of the population - including: records of births, deaths, disappearances, and health status.

I am raising funds in order to begin corridor efforts and continue guide training and chimpanzee monitoring.
The goal is to raise enough funds to complete the project's main action plans through the first quarter (Q1) of 2018.
