On June 23, 1980, our lives were changed as a seemingly random group of us--mostly 18 yr olds-- entered the U.S. Air Force Academy as the Class of '84. Little did we know that we would have the privilege of sharing that experience as a tightly-knit group-- first in "Guts" Squadron in Basic Training (That's where Chuck's motto "No Guts, No Glory" comes from!)
Upon finishing basic training, we became part of Cadet Squadron CS-24 "Phantoms" along with a young cadet named Chuck Hood. Chuck was funny and sarcastic and kept things light even when things were crazy! He liked to do impersonations of certain AOCs (Air Officer Commanding) as well as certain "favorite" upperclassmen. Needless to say, Chuck was hilarious!
At some point, Chuck entered CSU and declared to us: I'm a brain again! I remember him visiting us whenever he was in the area. But I was really touched when he came to visit my family at graduation. Even after we all scattered, --Chuck to the Army and the rest of us to the Air Force, he left an indelible mark on all of us.
That's where Chuck's story picks up in all of your lives. Fast-forward 30-some years, and we learned that Chuck became very ill with a rare blood cancer, which necessitated a heart transplant. We all prayed like our own lives depended on it and watched the Lord perform one incredible miracle after another, as He provided a NEW heart for a man with a HUGE heart! When we learned about Chuck's transplanted heart starting to fail, we were all in disbelief. Then just shy of 57 years young, the Lord decided it was his time...Well done, good and faithful servant.
As we reflect on Chuck's godly life, we want to help out with Chuck's most precious legacy--that of his children. Besides his dear wife, Christina, he leaves behind 6 children. The 4 youngest will need a good educational foundation. His daughter Melody is planning on starting college in the Fall of this year, 2019. Grant is 12, Reagan is 9 and little Morgan is just 4 years old.
I ask that all of you consider contributing to this worthy cause and take a huge burden off of Christina and their family as they now learn to undertake a new normal without their beloved husband and father. Your generous financial gifts will be used to offset the huge cost of their education or vocational training. I can't think of a better way to show our appreciation for Chuck than to look after the needs of his children. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
May God bless you, abundantly,
