Children Not Numbers - Gifts for Gaza
Donation protected
Hey all,
A few months ago I was doom-scrolling in the safety of my little apartment, watching videos of the horrors unfolding in Gaza...
...and then I turned off my phone and went to work thinking, "well that's totally f#$&^d up, but what am I supposed to do...what is the right thing to do?"... an absolute privileged cop out there for sure... but I think a common notion folks may be feeling... entwined with collective feelings of helplessness +/- confusion?
I then came across this brilliant insta account @sim_bookstagrams_badly, an anti-Zionist, Jewish author and journalist who uses her platform to 1) educate folks and 2) to champion Palestinian authors, charities, activists and everyday Gazans who are actually living this hell.
After chatting to a group of incredible like minded humans we decided to run an online book-club (for lack of a better term) to unpack Sim's recent book, 'Genocide Bad' - a collection of her essays, notes and stories on Palestine - that yes unpacks present and historical horrors, but also shines a light on some powerful, hope filled stories.
Essentially one thing I know I can do, is to just try and learn more... if you want to participate in the book club - hit me up - everyone welcome!! We kick off early August and will run until late September.
If you're like yeahh nahh to an online book club but you want to learn more... grab a copy of Genocide Bad. It was commissioned and published by the only Palestinian independently owned and operated press in the US.
Another thing I know I can try to do is to live more purposefully. To stop taking so much for granted. A small way I figured I could put that 'hallmark card' phrase into action, was to try and do something small, every day for as long as we run the book club. Something that I take for granted is my health. I don't exercise. Something so simple that I know I would miss if I was prevented from doing it. So my thing is to commit to 20 minutes of movement every day, because I can... and I should... and maybe we can raise some coin along the way for UK based charity 'Children Not Numbers'...
CNM supports critically ill children to be evacuated from the Gaza strip, as well we providing on the ground emergency medicine to the millions of children fighting to survive this genocide. If you want to see more of CNM's work on the ground, follow @drkiranrahim on instagram or check out their website childrennotnumbers.org
So if you're feeling like you want to DO something, despite however small...
...purchase a book like Genocide Bad...
...follow incredible activists like Sim Kern or Dr Kiran Rahim...
...hit us up to participate in the book club...
...commit yourself to doing an intentional bit of good for yourself or others every.single.day...
...drop a few dollars here to support the incredible work of Children Not Numbers...
Big love x
