Hi, My names is Caitlin and I am 13 years old. I am travelling to try to help make a difference to children in Philter Federal School in Zanzibar.
In the England, we don't always realise how lucky we are. Children in Zanzibar get to go to school maybe half or one day a week. Many children carry rocks with them to use for seats in class and have to walk for hours to get to and from school. They often have to work to help feed and support their families and miss out on learning and fun activities that most children in England get to experience.
African Adventures works in partnership with 34 schools across developing areas of Ghana, Kenya, and Zanzibar, providing life‑changing support to children and communities who need it most. Through a blend of humanitarian aid, educational support, infrastructure development, and responsible volunteering, the organisation helps create better opportunities for thousands of young people every year. Learn more on about it here: https://www.africanadventures.co.uk/
Whilst volunteering with African Adventures, I will be helping with teaching and construction. There are not enough classrooms and they have limited desks or chairs. There is no technology in the classes and the teachers often have to write on the floor or walls with chalk (although this is only if they have some). It is important to me because we don't get to choose where we are born or what circumstances we are born into so I want to help those who do not have the opportunities I am lucky enough to experience at home. Every penny donated counts and will be put towards getting things that the school needs to give to the children a better access to education and start in life.
