URGENT UPDATE: January 24, 2026 “Good news but more challenges for Sarita and Jorge’s Family ”

Sarita and Jorge express deep gratitude for the support given to them by this community; the kindness of strangers is sustaining their family during this time of crisis.

We wanted to share this update that Jorge was released from detention at Farmville and one can only imagine the family’s relief at being reunited. Their joy is tempered by the Judge’s order that a bond of $8,500 be paid by next week. Sarita and Jorge are consulting an attorney and being assisted by volunteers to see if there is any way to adjust or get help with such a large bond.

In the meantime the landlord of the house they rent has given them a bill for $640 for several months worth of in utilities.. We are circulating their Go Fund Me again to ask for your generosity in helping them to cover these utility fees as they work to resolve the bond and keep their family intact. Thank you for your continued support.
ORIGINAL:
Jorge was driving to work as an electrician at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 11th when he was stopped by ICE near the University of Maryland. Jorge was not committing any traffic violation. ICE was stopping all cars and asking the drivers for immigration papers. He was arrested and sent to a regional jail in Virginia.

His wife Sarita had called him about this time to ask him to come back home to pick up their 13 year old son who has missed the bus for school. He didn’t answer the phone or call her back which was highly unusual for him. She grew worried. She called several more times without response and grew increasingly worried. Several hours later Jorge was finally able to call her to let her know he had been detained by ICE. Her worries have now only increased.

Her two teenage sons, 17 and 13, are accustomed to spending time with their Dad after their school day. The couple’s 8 month old baby looked forward to playing with her Papa when he returned from work each day. The whole family has always enjoyed an evening meal together in their simple, but safe and loving home.

Their home now feels thrown into crisis. Sarita tearfully wonders how she will pay the rent and buy groceries without Jorge’s income. She works part-time in a chicken processing plant, but this income cannot pay all of their bills. She worries about her children who are also worried, sad and bewildered by their father’s absence. She knows she should find an immigration attorney to assist them in understanding what to do next, but does not know how she could possibly afford this.

Help this family know that they are not alone despite all of the hardship they are now facing.
Your support will help them navigate this uncertain time and assure them that there are
people who care.
