Transform Lives with the Child Raising Center: A Beacon of Hope in Uganda

Welcome to a story of resilience, faith, and the power of collective compassion.

I am Dr. Christina Blanchard-Horan. From 1999 to 2021, I worked in Uganda and witnessed firsthand both the beauty of its people and the profound challenges faced by its most vulnerable—its children.

In the rural district of Bugiri, the Child Raising Center stands today as a sanctuary for more than 70 children who once had nowhere to turn. These are children who were abandoned, orphaned, or living in extreme poverty—many without reliable food, shelter, or safety.

Today, they have a place to call home. But the journey to sustain and grow this haven continues.

A Reality Many Never See

Before arriving at the Center, many of these children slept on bare ground in grass huts, often going days without food. Some faced dangers no child should ever encounter.

Even now, the challenges persist. Just last Christmas, while many celebrated, our children faced the very real threat of losing their shelter. This past year, we also endured heartbreaking loss, reminding us how fragile their safety can be.

Yet through it all, we continue forward—because giving up is not an option.

Building a Future of Stability and Independence

We are not just providing temporary relief—we are building long-term sustainability.

Through your support, we have:

Built housing for 31 girls and 40 boys

Installed a well for clean water access

Constructed a temporary schoolhouse

Built a pit latrine for sanitation

Invested in agriculture to grow our own food

These milestones represent more than infrastructure—they represent dignity, safety, and hope.

Our vision is clear: a self-sustaining center where children are not only cared for, but equipped to thrive into adulthood.

What We Still Need

Despite this progress, critical needs remain:

Beds for the boys’ dormitory

Annual fee for our school $300

Educational certificates for graduating students

Ongoing food and medical support - $150 per month (we have only one regular donor other than me, CBH)

Recent emergency medical expenses have stretched our resources, making your support more vital than ever.
