Child-Friendly & Wheelchair Accessible Greenhouse

Donation protected
We have a dream to build a community space where children and adults, regardless of mobility, can have the experience of harvesting and growing their own fruits and vegetables.

Ladybug Farm was established in 2017. Our intention is to inspire health, empower children, and connect community through agriculture and time in Nature.  We offer an array of homesteading classes/events and programs, host a Farm and Forest School for young children and provide an open-air space for community meet ups and hands-on learning.

As part of our intention, we have invited and hosted weekly and monthly public school field trips on our farm. One of the more inspiring groups is a self contained classroom from a local charter school. Unfortunately, the entire group is unable to participate due to ease mobility for those in wheelchairs.

To meet the needs of this special group and others we have begun the creation of a child-friendly and wheelchair accessible greenhouse.  This enclosed space will provide wheelchair-height garden beds and germination tables, composting and soil bins and an industrial sink with handwashing station. To accomplish our ambitious goal we have restructured the entire east side of our farm to prepare for the building of the 1,620 square foot greenhouse which we  purchased in December 2020.

However, we have fallen short on the funds needed to complete the last steps of our dream.  We are currently unable to purchase the hardscape materials to make this child-friendly and wheelchair accessible green space.  Your donation to our farm would grant us the ability to purchase the necessary  material for building the raised beds and germination tables as well as provide floor coverings and a sink.

The raised beds widths will be narrow enough to allow arm's length accessibility from both sides of the beds so that farm visitors can participate in planting and harvesting.  The aisleways will be wide enough for easy rotation and navigation of those in a wheelchair.  To assist with navigability and assure wheelchairs do not get stuck in the dirt, the ground will be graded and leveled prior to the greenhouse build and the floor will be covered in a FarmTek floor covering.  To assist in wheelchair accessibility from vehicle to greenhouse, we have built a parking lot directly east of the future greenhouse.

When this space is completed we will be able to invite families with young children, the elderly community and all those in wheelchairs or with other assisted mobility devices to enjoy the green space and the other amenities Ladybug Farm has to offer.

Thank you for your consideration!
Green blessings,
Shawna & Jared
