Childcare Scholarships for Fire Victims

My name is Samantha Montes, and I am the Executive Director of Beyond the Classroom After School Enrichment Program. I am a licensed childcare provider dedicated to offering a safe and nurturing space for school-aged children in the SPUSD community.

I am utterly heartbroken for all the families who have lost their homes in the recent fires. I’ve been deeply reflecting on ways to support these families during this incredibly challenging time. While my program typically operates from 3–6 PM, my space is available during the daytime, and I can provide childcare for up to 50 children from 8 AM to 3 PM.

As a for-profit organization, I do not have access to grants to cover staff wages, so I am looking to create a fund to provide scholarships for families displaced by the fires. This effort would enable us to offer free or subsidized childcare, giving these families a small reprieve as they begin the difficult process of rebuilding their lives.

While I cannot replace their homes, I hope to provide children with a sense of stability and normalcy during this uncertain time. Having a safe place for their children can allow parents the space and time they need to take their next steps.
