SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield crews are currently working on a large building fire in the city’s North End. The fire took place in the area of 2413 Main Street.

On Saturday, January 28, 2023, this building next door to us had a fire and caused serious damage to our small New North Citizens' Council Childcare Center at 2455 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01107. We are a small nonprofit childcare in the city of Springfield. Most of our staff have worked at this program for 1 year to 30 years. Many children have attended and know the teachers that have been a constant in this program. It is sad to see the classrooms damaged, to see the artwork destroyed and to have smells that are intolerable for long periods. This fire has temporarily closed us down. We are working hard to reopen our childcare program at a school building but our children are from 12 months to 5 years old and so we need to now make this space suitable for smaller children, our new home needs to be set up according to the regulations of EEC.

Yes, our insurance will cover the restoration of our building but we have many items that need to be repurchased to move into the temporary space that was loaned to us by the city. Many of our supplies have water damage and smoke damage. We are having to purchase everything necessary to run a childcare program. This Gofundme is for the purchase of items such as four portable sinks for the children to wash up before they eat and after meals. If we're to receive these items via donation we would use the funds to buy necessary items to keep our program in compliance with EEC (Early Education and Care)
