Our community is well aware of our four year long custody fight to ensure that our children can have a positive co-parenting experience with both their parents. Specifically, we have been fighting for our right to have the children an equal amount of time including time spent here in Easthampton with us. Many of you have watched as for years I have lived a bi-coastal life. I spend a week every month, and most holidays in California with my children so that we can be an active part of their lives. I am very privileged that I have been able to structure my life and work to accommodate this need.
While we have no desire to speak ill of the children's other parent, we will say their other parent has been determined to be uncooperative and make what should be a positive co-parenting experience into a years long fight. Our close friends and allies are well aware of the challenges we have overcome, and that we still face with their other parent.
What a majority of our community doesn't know is the cost this fight has exacted on our family. Currently, we have committed over $20,000 to this effort, along with countless sleepless nights, tears, and untold stress. This last summer saw this fight hit a fevered pitch as it nears it's end with numerous court hearings, and attorney's fees.
On 2.2.2020 we have what we hope will be the final hearing on this matter. As we are nearing the finish line we are now faced with an $8,000 dollar legal bill. This bill is for our attorney's preparation, court fees, and their appearance two hearings.
Our community knows how dedicated we are to helping lift others even if it stretches us to breaking. If we had a dollar for everyone who has ever asked "How do you do it?" we probably would not have to do this. We try our best to show up for our community, both as individuals and through our work with Attack Bear Press. We have done this not for a thank you. We believe that all people in our community have the right to live a life that is happy, joyous, and free. We give to our community because we know that we, in some ways, are privileged to be in a position to help ensure others can live this way.
