ChiFresh - Boosting Black Businesses Campaign
About ChiFresh
ChiFresh Kitchen is a worker cooperative food service contractor, which is owned and determined by formerly incarcerated Chicagoans, primarily Black women. Our mission is to build wealth and offer a liberatory workplace for our justice-involved members. Our meals are freshly cooked, nutrient-dense, delicious, and rooted in the culture and traditions of the people being served. A significant portion of our produce comes from the Urban Growers Collective, a network of eight urban farms operating on 11-acres of land predominantly located on Chicago’s south side. Our current clients are transitional homes, nursing homes, schools, and other community-based organizations.
Our Impact and Goals
Since our launch on May 11, 2020, ChiFresh has provided more than 8,000 meals to South and West Side residents facing food insecurity. We are currently providing more than 1,200 meals per week.
This fall, we're hoping to grow significantly through our first contract with a school. It would mean 4,000 meals / week (breakfast and lunch five days / week for 400 kids). To do this while maintaining our current contract addressing food insecurity, we need a second vehicle and additional packing equipment.
Through this growth, we want to start to live into this identity:
"ChiFresh Kitchen
The best food service contractor in Chicago. Period."
In order to do that, we want to have our vehicles, gear, and meal containers branded like our competitors in the space. We anticipate the following budget for our growth:
- Used Ford Transit Connect: ~$10,000
- Branding / wrapping for both vehicles: ~$4,500
- Branded totes, aprons, hats, and stickers for our meal containers: ~$5,500
We are so appreciative of the opportunity that Boosting Black Businesses is providing us! Thank you, thank you for whatever support you can provide!
