Chief Hannigan’s Medical & Remembrance Campaign

Donation protected
**I am so incredibly grateful for how much support the Hannigans have already received! Earlier today I spoke at length with Chief Hannigan's wife Jennifer, I saw how desperate the financial situation truly was and that MUCH more help would be needed. With her permission we have increased the funds requested to accurately reflect the true cost of medical care. Please donate. Please share. Thank you with all of my heart.**

Chief Joseph Hannigan dedicated his entire life in service to his country and community.  He began dreaming of serving when he was a small boy and then lived those dreams more fully than most anyone possibly could.  For over 45 years he fought for and protected this nation with a decorated and storied career that included service in: the United States Marine Corps, The U.S. Army, the New York City Police Department, Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department in New York, in Florida for the Plantation Fire Department and for the Golden Beach Police Department, and finally in Texas for the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office as Assistant County Fire Marshal, and then as the Chief of Police for the El Centro College Police Department in Dallas.

Chief Hannigan is a man that every leader should be.  He was in New York when the World Trade Center was attacked by terrorists in 1993, responding as a member of the NYPD.  Then again in 2001, when the Towers fell, Joseph Hannigan responded without hesitation as a member of the Manhasset-Lakeville FD while also remaining (and working) as an active-retired member of the NYPD.  He spent countless agonizing hours digging through the infamous “pile” searching for survivors.  And finally, in an act of what can only be described as guided by providence, Chief Joseph Hannigan was in command of a small group of officers at El Centro College on that fateful night of July 7th, 2016 when a gunman opened fire on police officers in downtown Dallas, killing five and wounding many others.  His leadership and actions that night saved many lives (including mine) and showed the world the depth of a warrior mindset that couldn’t be dulled nor dimmed by decades of selfless service.

Joseph Hannigan, my friend and mentor, silently soldiered on for years as pancreatic cancer sapped his strength.  He didn’t complain, didn’t indicate that he was suffering.  He continued serving until he no longer could.  His cancer is listed as caused by his service on 9-11-2001.  He changed my life, and the lives of all of us who had the honor of serving under him, and redefined for me what it is to be a police officer.  He taught me to love my job in ways I hadn’t known I could even after serving for seven years in Law Enforcement.  His fight with cancer has brought with it a mountain of medical expenses and we are asking for your help.  He is currently in hospice care.  We have substantially raised the goal amount to accurately reflect the true financial burden, because the funds raised through this effort will pay for all those medical bills as well as his memorial, lifting a terrible burden from his devoted wife, Jennifer.  We love you all and appreciate your help more than you know.
