Support the Chicken Hawks' Journey to WPI Open Invitational
Donation protected
This competition is in June and the Chicken Hawks need help with travel funds. We used $3185 from this GoFundMe to help pay for last year's trip. Any new donations will go to this year's trip.
The Chicken Hawks are a community-based team sponsored by Mesa View Elementary. They come from three different schools (Orchard Mesa Middle, Bookcliff Middle, and Mesa View Elementary). This is the second year that the Chicken Hawks have been learning over the summer and during their free time on Saturdays. Part of their Saturdays was given to learning how to code Lego robots, research, study real world topics, and come up with innovative ways to solve them. This year, they chose to enhance underwater exploration through the use of lasers. They worked together to come up with an innovative way to use different types of lasers on an AUV (autonomous underwater vehicle).
At the Fruita Qualifier in November, they gave an outstanding presentation and performed well in the robot game earning them 1st place Champion's Award. They went on to compete at the State Championships in Denver a month later. After working hard on their improvements, the Chicken Hawks received 2nd place Core Values Award, which is given to a team for their outstanding demonstration of the FIRST Core Values: Discovery, Impact, Innovation, Inclusion, Teamwork, and Fun. We later learned they received an invitation to the WPI Open Invitational Robotics Competition in Worcester MA, just outside Boston! This is the second national event the Chicken Hawks have been invited to, giving them a chance to converse with other aspiring engineers at the national level!
Your generous donations will go to flights and lodging allowing the Chicken Hawks to experience another life-changing event!
