Help Us Kick Covid Through Our 5-min Rapid Test
Donation protected
Chicago, let's kick Covid & get back to living through our accurate 5-min rapid test.
Covid-19 sucks—and we’re doing something about it. We’re developing an easy-to-use, accurate 5-minute rapid Covid-19 test so we can all get back to living. But we need your help.
We were selected for a prestigious international covid 19 test development competition and are raising funds to help us with testing supplies.
We hate Covid-19 not just because it has killed hundreds of thousands of people so far, but also because it continues to keep us from seeing the ones we love and doing the things we love to do. That’s why our team of Chicago medical device specialists have banded together to develop an easy to administer, accurate rapid Covid-19 test … in only 5 minutes!
Why Covid-19 testing is important, and why you should support our test
A reliable rapid test lets you quickly know your status so that you can work, socialize, and see your loved ones with a level of certainty that they are safe.
Our test matters for three reasons:
1-It's fast! In 5 minutes, you get your results and can get on with your day. Most other tests take about an hour or more to get you your results, which isn't practical for everyday life.
2-It's more comfortable for the end user and safer for healthcare workers, due to the fact that it is a saliva-based test. No more swabs being shoved up your nose!
3-It’s inexpensive. We are giving the providers an incentive to keep it under $15 by providing the Covid-19 software free of charge if they offer the test for free.
Our test aims to make your experience similar to the 5-minute check-in to your reservation at your favorite restaurant: easy, quick, and simple.
We too are eagerly awaiting an efficacious vaccine, but a vaccine does not eliminate the need for testing:
1-Until an effective vaccine is found, our communities will need an accurate, on-the-spot test that is inexpensive and easy enough to allow for mass testing at schools, sports stadiums, concert venues, and other frequently populated locations.
2-It may take time to manufacture and distribute enough quantities of a vaccine to all communities, especially the most vulnerable ones with limited means.
3-There are some populations that cannot participate in taking the vaccine (e.g., it may be too expensive; immunocompromised individuals may not be able to take the risk) as well as others who will choose not to take the vaccine for ideological, religious, or other reasons. For these members of our communities, testing remains an essential way of maintaining their well-being.
A rapid Covid-19 test will continue to be necessary until the pandemic is under control.

About us: Chicagoans on a mission
We are Dawatek—a medical device startup founded by four young, minority Chicagoans: brothers Isaac and Peter Chadri, Davina Moossazadeh, and Leela Krishna Raavi.
Our company was selected to compete in the prestigious world-wide XPRIZE Rapid Covid Testing competition to develop easy-to-use, reliable, and rapid Covid-19 testing solutions. The competition aims to identify the best, most accurate rapid Covid test kit designs for global distribution. Dawatek is among the top 200 teams from around the world selected in September to reach the semi-finals of the $5M competition. We need money to help us complete the development of this test kit.
Winning the XPRIZE would not only accelerate the adoption of Dawatek's innovative test design, but help thousands of Chicagoans get their accurate Covid-19 test results within 5 minutes. This is because the final stage of the competition includes a pilot phase, where we would administer at least 500 tests a week for 2 months; and we have resolved to run our pilots on Chicago's South and West side because African Americans have been disproportionately affected by the pandemic.

Why Dawatek?
With our expertise in chemistry, data science, and business operations, we have the perfect combination of technical knowledge and critical thinking skills to take on the Covid-19 challenge. Our Covid rapid test attests to our potential, with a higher accuracy than the current leading test. We do this using 1) a laser that we specially designed to detect the coronavirus proteins, and 2) our own algorithm that can easily classify these coronavirus proteins.
The simplicity of our test also renders it cheaper than the leaders on the market, allowing us to scale up and reach the communities that have been most impacted by Covid-19 due to lack of testing. This is in line with our mission to create accessible medical technologies, inspired by the life and death of Isaac and Peter’s aunt Subila King’ori who died, in part, due to lack of access to technology. We make our commitment to medical equity clear in our promise not to price gouge: we will give our covid-19 test for free to any hospital that offers it to patients for free, meaning that our donors can rest assured knowing that their money is being spent in an ethical manner to help the most vulnerable communities.
Our team has the drive and passion, as well as talent and technical skills, to develop these tests—just not the money. The $17,000 we have raised so far from close friends and family helped us use our innovation and teamwork to create a proof of concept, which got us this far in the competition. Now we’re taking it to the next level. That’s where you come in.

Your donation: help us buy supplies
Every donation counts—literally just $1 to $1K and more—in helping us buy the test development supplies our team needs to ultimately allow our communities to get back to seeing, living, and working together. We need your support. Join us and be part of the Covid-19 solution. Please donate to our cause and share our page with your loved ones, co-workers, team-mates… and anybody you'd love to see in person again. We will do you proud.
$1 is the equivalent of donating the oral swab used in a test.
$5 is the equivalent of donating the reagent to administer a test.
$10 is the equivalent of donating a single 5-min test to detect the virus.
$100 is the equivalent of donating laboratory space for the day.
$500 is the equivalent of donating PPE equipment for 1 lab worker for a month.

The milestones: Covid-19 test development
Our communities are facing huge hardships. Dawatek has risen to the challenge by entering the XPrize Rapid Covid Testing competition, where we have been selected as a semi-finalist. Here are the milestones to get our product through this competition:
Within one week: by September 25th, 2020
$50,000 to build a prototype to test for Sars-CoV2 material
Within one month: by October 16th, 2020
$250,000 to develop and send test kits to independent authorities for clinical validation
Within three months: by December 15th, 2020
$500,000 to get on a path to an FDA-approved rapid Covid-19 test that gives results within 5 minutes
Chicago, we can’t do this alone. Please contribute and share so that our communities can get back to living. We are counting on you—donate today to be part of the Covid-19 solution!

Much love to you,
- Isaac, Peter, Davina, and Leela
