Chicago Orphan Kitten Project

Welcome to The Orphan Kitten Project fundraising page! All donations are tax deductible. We need your help to save them all!

How will we save them all?

Here's the plan:

-Open a semi-private facility for orphan kittens and queens. This will be centrally located so that we are reachable from every suburb and CACC. We need to be close to everyone. A triage center is much like a kitten n nursery but the goal is short term care. Once the kittens are in our care we hit the phones and emails and reach out to partners, rescues, fosters, known bottle baby moms and see who can take them on. IF no one is available we have the space, the team and the resources to care for them until they are adoption ready. NO MORE KITTENS WILL DIE IN OVERCROWDED AND UNDER RESOURCED SHELTERS!

-Build out space for the following rooms:

   -Newborn unit
   -Mush/gruel baby unit
   -A room for adoptable kittens
   -Queens with their babies
-ISO kittens who have been exposed to Panleuk, ringworm, etc
-Boarding room for small animals that belong to women from domesti      c violence situations that need animal care so they can go to a safe sp      ace. We want to serve the cats AND our community.

In this space we will also have a classroom to teach things like:

-TNR-we need to help the root of the overpopulation challenge
   -Bottle baby classes
   -Volunteer orientation
   -Foster orientation

-We will have a limited access adoption lounge for kittens that stay in our care.

WHY?

Every single day during kitten season myself or Jessica wake up to Facebook messages, emails, Instagram messages and texts and someone has found a kitten and they don't have the skills to care for it and don't know where to bring it. We can become the space and the educational tool to solve this crisis. But I need YOU to help me get there.

We see the city shelter becoming overcrowded and having to euthanize for space, newborn kittens brought in are the FIRST to be put down if no rescue has claimed them by closing time. Why? Not because anyone wants to but because if newborn kittens aren't fed every 2-3 hours they will die. They put them down so they don't have to suffer. WITH YOUR HELP that doesn't have to happen anymore! We can take all kittens not rescued by the end of the day. Even with new initiatives at CACC kittens are still being euthanized if not out in time.

This is expensive! Custom kennels, supplies for hundreds of kittens, a buildout, a lease, etc. Help us help them!

I am not naive. I KNOW this is a big number and a big undertaking but it has been something I have been working on for quite some time. Last year I went to the ASPCA Kitten Nursery in NYC and upon returning opened Kitten Korner in the Windy Kitty Cat Cafe so we could save more kittens. It is simply not enough. Kittens are still dying. Why sit and hope something comes along? Why hope everyone spays and neuters their pets or strays in their neighborhood? It is not time to think about hope it is time to BE THE HOPE and be the solution.

Please donate, share, ask your company if they can match donations for one day or a week! We need ALL  the help we can get! Are you a company that wants to be a sponsor? Reach out to us via our website windykittychicago.com
