Chia’s Fight

Hi everyone! My name is Sherry and I am the oldest sister of Chia.  Last Saturday, August 14, I received a message from my sister in law, Mhy saying that Chia is slurring his speech and has an uneven smile. I recognized that these are signs of a stroke so I advised them to go to the hospital.  Since COVID cases are still on the rise in the Philippines, it took a while for my brother to be seen.  During this time, my brother can no longer move his right arm and leg.  He also became very lethargic.  After a bit of a wait they were able to get a CT scan and confirmed that he had a hemorrhagic stroke.  A little health background on Chia, he has history of rheumatic heart disease, multiple heart surgeries were both of his heart valves are replaced with artificial heart valves. With all these pre-existing condition, time is of the essence. He was admitted in the ICU but they could not do surgery at once since he is taking anticoagulants.  They transfused  7 units of fresh frozen plasma and red blood cells pre-surgery.  The doctors said that he would need a craniectomy. Surgery was scheduled Monday 7am Manila time.  The surgeon said that they were only able to remove 70% of the bleeding because the rest has already hardened. With Chia’s medical history he is at a greater risk for bleeding and other surgical complications.
Chia was supposed to leave for Canada last Tuesday, August 18 on a student visa.  He was going to study there and eventually find a job and hopefully bring his wife and 5 kids with him.  He is the most thoughtful husband, who surprises their wife with a wedding ceremony on their wedding anniversary? Chia did.  He is also a very loving Dad to his 5 kids. He is a very caring son and generous brother who is always ready to help even if he has no more left to give.
Chia remains in critical condition. We are praying that he pulls through this.  We lost our Dad in Dec 2020 and then four months after our brother Christian passed away.  So with a humble and sincere heart, our family is asking you if you can please pray for him and if it allows for you to make a monetary donation please do so.  Your donation will go towards current and future medical bills. Any amount is greatly appreciated. I hope you can help Chia in this fight.
