Chicago Tech Academy Football Team

My name is Jonathan Sanchez and I am the new Head Football Coach at Chicago Tech Academy in Chicago, IL. We are a Title 1 High School that is located on the South Side of Chicago. We lack the funds and proper resources to have any athletic programs let alone a football team. They were able to get a few things last year before I arrived but it honestly isn't enough. A majority of the population we serve come from single parent households who are financially struggling. With that being said, many parents have to work multiple jobs to make ends meet.  As a result, parent involvement isn't exactly taking place at a high rate.  The football program is only in its second year of existence.  With that being said, there are a plethora of things we still need.

The students I work with on a consistent basis come from an environment that isn't full of positive reinforcement. As a result, it's my job as an educator and coach to lead by example and attempt to fill voids they currently have. The students we all work with need football more than football needs them. They benefit from the structure, discipline, expectations, and positive relationships the sport provides. This is why it's my priority to  provide my student athletes with the best football program possible. Our students live in an environment that lacks hope and positive role models. Football provides that for them and serves as an external motivation for their academics. Football serves as a sanctuary for our students because of the violence around them.

I have coached football for 10 years and my primary objective has always been to put my student athletes into a position to be successful. Building a solid foundation while instilling the morals and values they need to become responsible young men. The program I am putting in place will create the framework for that foundation. However, if given additional assistance, it would definitely help solidify it. If we have the resources we need for our student athletes, they will continue to join and remain on the team. I am trying to give them the building blocks they'll need to pursue and accomplish anything they choose to. It's a proven fact that student athletes perform better academically than students who are not involved in extracurricular activities. When I was an athlete, sports were my motivation academically and the life lessons I learned were priceless. I am implementing many of those lessons within my program so that my students benefit from it. As educators and teachers it's our job to help our students paint the picture of their life. Help me paint the picture for my student athletes by supporting our football program. The masterpiece you create will last a lifetime.

Sincerely,

Coach Sanchez
