My name is Chinyere Opia. We (a couple of friends of Chinyereugo Chinwuba) are fundraising for a friend who is battling cancer.

Chi Chi as she is fondly called is a journalist in Nigeria and a mother to three amazing children aged between 6 and 14 years old. To meet ChiChi is to love her. She is kind, generous and a handworker. She loves being a journalist who advocates for the less privileged and vulnerable in the society.

Our dear friend Chi Chi has been diagnosed with breast cancer. This news has turned her world upside down — but if you know her, you know her spirit is unbreakable.

Despite the pain, treatments, and uncertainty ahead, Chi Chi continues to face each day with courage and grace. Now, it’s our turn to stand by her — just like she has always stood by others.

Chi Chi has silently been fighting this battle with the support of a small group of family and friends for over 2 years now. But now, she is reaching out to you because the coming months will bring significant medical expenses, treatment costs, time away from work and family.

Here is Chi Chi's story in her own words:

"I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023. Placed on 6 cycles of chemotherapy, which I started in November 2023 and finished in March 2024. After that, I did a surgery on the particular breast with radiation treatment in 2024. I was to continue immunotherapy for one year, but I couldn't finish this because of the funds involved.

I had already spent so much on the previous chemotherapy, surgery, and radiation. And the immunotherapy was above N500,000 ($345 USD) for one injection to be taken every 3 weeks for 1 year. As a result of the skip, I had a relapse and had to repeat the treatment.

I have done a 2nd radiation, but I have yet to start the chemotherapy for another 1 year. The cost is still too high for me. I can't afford it, nor can I ignore it again this time. So I am appealing to anyone touched to assist me so I can procure the drugs. I can't afford to ignore it or stop again this time. Please help. God bless you as you consider assisting."
