Chicago HOPES for Kids Summer Fundraiser

Within the city of Chicago:
- Over 16,000 students don't have access to permanent housing
- 25% of students facing homelessness don't attend school regularly
- Just 29% are proficient in reading at their respective levels
- <1 in 4 students facing homelessness will graduate from high school

As a Chicago native and a former CPS student, it pains me to know that the trajectory of so many bright and capable individuals is diverted, stalled, or stopped as a result of circumstances that are entirely outside of their control.

For the last year and a half I have been fortunate enough to serve as a volunteer with an incredibly vibrant, enthusiastic, and energetic group of CPS students through Chicago HOPES for Kids, a local non-profit organization dedicated to providing educational, literacy, and enrichment support to children living in Chicago's homeless shelters. Chicago HOPES' mission and purpose is to provide these students with the resources and encouragement needed to succeed academically despite facing the challenges of housing insecurity.

In the wake of Covid-19, children across the city of Chicago are being faced with the uncertainty of what their educational environments and opportunities will look like in the coming year. For families and children impacted by homelessness, that uncertainty is being felt and compounded more than ever.

It is my goal to help Chicago HOPES for Kids raise $5,500 by the end of August to sponsor the following:

- A shelter library
- STEM Focused Enrichment Resources for 9 shelter locations
- School Supplies for all students across 9 shelter locations for

All of the funds donated will go to Chicago HOPES for Kids and help prepare and support the students in their programming for the coming fall 2020 semester.

I care immensely for all of the kids impacted by Chicago HOPES for Kids and am always inspired by their resilience, positivity, and constant enthusiasm when learning. It is my hope that we can all work together this summer to give these students and families one less thing to worry about while navigating the uncertainties that they are facing this school year.

Thank you all so much for your care and your help! Please give what you can, share with friends and family, and head over to the Chicago HOPES for Kids  website to learn more about what this organization does to support our CPS students today for a brighter future tomorrow.
