On Monday, May 8th, my cousin Cheyenne suffered a severe asthma attack. She was seen and treated at Memorial hospital in Carthage, where they placed a breathing tube and put her on the ventilator to help her breathe, and then was immediately air-lifted to Blessing Hospital in Quincy. The ICU team quickly identified the severity of Cheyenne’s condition, and that she needed more extensive treatment. She was placed on ECMO (i.e. lung bypass) and air-lifted again to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Since Monday night, she has shown improvements but remains on life support. She has been taken off of ECMO, but remains on the ventilator as her lungs are not recovered yet. She is also on dialysis because the severity of her condition caused acute kidney failure. Cheyenne is a fighter and is making progress each day, but is still in critical condition and remains in the ICU at Barnes. Her road to recovery comes with many obstacles, including astronomical medical expenses to cover three separate hospitals, two flight transfers, and an undetermined amount of time in the hospital. Cheyenne, her fiancé, Trapper, and her family, will also be faced with fuel/travel costs, and many other unexpected expenses. My goal is to raise money to take away as much financial burden as possible. If you are not in a position to donate, we ask for continued prayers for Cheyenne's full recovery.
