Hi! My 6-year-old Morkie Chewie has been diagnosed with stage 5 IVDD (intervertebral disc disease); he has multiple herniated discs and the back half of his body is completely paralyzed. He has little to no deep pain perception in his legs :( It’s hard for me to reach out and ask for help but Chewie means the world to me, so I’d do anything to give him the chance at a happy life. Throughout his life, Chewie has been an optimistic, crazy and loving dog. So it's hard to see him not be able to do things he once loved, like running laps around the tree in our backyard and going for walks to meet new dog friends. Chewie’s taking 2 different pain medications, steroids, and a muscle relaxant and he’s on strict crate rest. Chewie's neurologist told us he has a 50-60% chance of walking again with spinal surgery and rehabilitation, but a 0% chance without it. Unfortunately, the fees of the MRI, neurologist check-up, other vet appointments and the surgery add up to over $10,000 (the MRI with the neurologist check-up was quoted to me at around $4000 and the surgery was quoted to be over $5000 and then the rest of the funds will help to cover part of his rehabilitation, medications and check-ups).
