Hi Friends!
Most of us know and love Chet however if you haven't met this amazing guy, let me tell you he is one of the kindest and most caring people that I know.
Chet's lust for life is contagious. He's usually the first one on the dance floor, or trying to force me to sing Whitney Houston on Karaoke with him. Chet knows how to laugh at himself and as serious as life can be he chooses to embrace the good times and enjoy each moment . He is always bringing a fun-loving energy to any room he walks into. We all know him as a person who would do anything for the people he cares for.
By the young age of 27, Chet has already accomplished so much in a career. He served six years in the United States Coast Guard before moving back home to Charleston, SC where he currently is a firefighter for the North Charleston Fire Department. He loves his job and the people he works with who have become an extended family, he is eager to get back to the station post treatment.
Within a few weeks of feeling a lump, and after many tests and doctors appointments, Chet was diagnosed with Stage 2A testicular cancer. Chet was told he would endure 4 rounds of EP and CP Chemotherapy. His Doctor said that" chemo is the cure for Chet" and , with a 98% cure rate, he should never have to worry about testicular cancer in his future!
As of Friday, Chet is halfway through chemo and is officially feeling all of those terrible side effects. Through the exhaustion of infusion days, he is still dedicated to working light duty shifts for the department and teaching at the academy.
Even with insurance, between deductables, co payments, medication costs, and the loss of wages the out of pocket expenses are expected to exceed 10K. Many of you have asked how you can help. By supporting his GoFundMe campaign it will help relieve Chet of stress as it relates to the financial side of his treatment, allowing him to focus on his recovery. No donation is too small and all are greatly appreciated.
As a young adult in his twenties, you can imagine the fear behind the word "cancer." But despite the shock, Chet's resilience and positive outlook throughout this chapter in his life is what I love most about him. He has taken charge and shown up as a fighter every day since day one. He hasn't once pitied himself or let cancer define him. Rather he's made this a defining moment for his character. I've never met someone with a stronger support team behind him and who's beloved by so many amazing people! I am happy to pay it forward just like Chet has done so many times in his life.
Chet so appreciates all of the kind words from you all and well wishes. We are looking forward to him finishing up chemo the end of October! Again, thank you all so much for support.
WE LOVE YOU CHET!!
