Chestnut School's Hurricane Helene Herbal Relief Fund
Donation protected
Hurricane Helene has left a heartbreaking trail of destruction across Appalachia, impacting our cherished herbal community. Many herbal farms, apothecaries, and clinics have been devastated, with some losing everything they’ve worked so hard to build.
Our own Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine, located in Asheville, North Carolina, has also suffered heavy losses. The floodwaters destroyed our beloved library, apothecary, and most of our business equipment, including essential photography and video gear. On a more personal note, our founder, Juliet Blankespoor, lost most of her personal belongings to the swollen river.
In the midst of this tragedy, your outpouring of support has deeply moved us. Many of you have asked how you can help, and we are so grateful for your kindness. Here’s how you can lend a hand:
1. HERBAL DONATIONS
We’re seeking herbal donations to help replenish the medicine stocks lost in the storm. Additionally, we're collecting herbal and first aid supplies for Appalachian mutual aid organizations working on the frontlines of this recovery. You can find details about what we need and where to send donations here:
2. FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTIONS
We’re also raising funds to support the rebuilding efforts in the herbal community. Donations will go toward:
- Securing a storage facility in Marshall, NC to receive, organize, and distribute donations
- Purchasing dispensing supplies like labels, bottles, and packaging
- Covering labor costs for coordinating the distribution of supplies to mutual aid organizations and impacted herbal businesses in Appalachia
- Supporting the rebuilding of herbal farms, apothecaries, and clinics damaged by Hurricane Helene by donating funds and supplies
- Restoring the Chestnut School library and apothecary
If you’re an herbalist who was affected by the storm, please reach out to us at the Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine website (www.chestnutherbs.com). Also, please help us spread the word to potential donors and to those affected so they can receive support.
