Chester Changes Lives
Hello, my name is Emma. I am Chester’s mummy. We are a family of four, There’s David my husband, myself, and our two beautiful boys Reuben, aged 4 and Chester our little warrior who just celebrated his 2nd birthday last month. We as a family wanted to start this page because even though it’s still very new and very raw, we simply HAD to get helping this amazing charity. Chester has been diagnosed with B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), also known as acute lymphocytic leukemia, is a rapidly progressing blood and bone marrow cancer that affects the immune system and blood cells. It's characterized by the overproduction of immature white blood cells, called lymphoblasts, in the bone marrow. ALL can spread to the lymph nodes, central nervous system, and other organs. It can affect both children and adults, but it's most often diagnosed in younger people. Unfortunately after numerous visits to A+E/ private GP appointment and phone calls voicing our concerns with our own GP, nobody was taking my concerns at face value, I had to be my sons advocate and push because I KNEW that something more was wrong, and devastatingly enough I was right. Please please please trust your instincts, scream it from the roof tops, you know your child better than anyone else! As sadly other parents we have encountered through the week have all experienced the same journey before we arrived here. The staff on the haematology ward have genuinely kept us going, we honestly don’t know what we would have done without them. This outstanding charity we have seen and experienced first hand the difference and impact it has not only on the ward itself, but the children and their families. They have funded the isolation rooms on this ward which we are currently staying in, they have funded WiFi for children and families to avail from, they have funded positions on the ward for play specialists to come and spend time with children on the wards. The list is truly endless and the impact is astronomical. The charity support the work of The Children's Cancer Unit at the Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children. Their mission is to provide the best possible treatment and support for children and young people and their families facing a cancer diagnosis, and they are committed to making a positive, lasting impact on every child's cancer journey. So please if you could spare anything I can assure you it’s going in the right place, and from our family especially our little warrior Chester we know we have a long journey ahead but we know we will get by with your support! So let’s fight this together!
