This August, we’re bringing children together in Tralee for the ChessIreland Charity Tournament — a weekend of learning, competition, and community. Over 100 young players will take part across two days, enjoying their first real chess tournament experience while also supporting children thousands of miles away.
All proceeds from this event will go directly to Tír na nÓg Orphanage, a charity close to our hearts.
Founded by Kerry woman Louise Quill in 2006, Tír na nÓg provides a safe home for up to 60 orphaned and abandoned children in the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania. The charity has already built a primary school educating 300 children in the wider community, and every child in their care is supported through to university level. Right now, Tír na nÓg is fundraising to build a new home for their children — a place of stability, safety, and hope.
By supporting our chess tournament, you’re not just helping young people in Ireland discover the joy and benefits of chess; you’re also helping to transform lives for children in Tanzania.
We believe chess teaches resilience, focus, and critical thinking — qualities every child deserves the chance to develop, no matter where they’re born.
Your donation, no matter the size, will make a real impact. Together, we can turn a weekend of chess into a legacy of education and opportunity.
